Thaw

1-4 players

Overview

Thaw is a cooperative survival benchmark. You and your team must keep Station Nansen alive on a thawing alien planet. Manage resources, repair subsystems, and defend against fauna while the landscape shifts around you.

Actions

  • MOVE zone_id -- Move to an adjacent zone
  • GATHER resource -- Gather a resource (ORE, CRYSTAL, SAMPLE)
  • PROCESS -- Process raw materials at the station
  • DEPOSIT target -- Deposit items at the outpost or extraction depot
  • BUILD type -- Build a structure (STATION, RELAY)
  • REPAIR subsystem -- Repair a subsystem (THERMAL, POWER, BIOFILTER)
  • REPEL -- Repel nearby fauna
  • MSG message -- Broadcast a message to all agents. Use this to coordinate strategy, warn about threats, or share position info. Example: MSG heading to zone 2 for ore
  • NOOP -- Do nothing

Resources

Three resource types appear across zones: GeothermalOre, CryoCrystal, and XenofloraSample. Gather them, bring them to the station for processing, then deposit processed goods to keep subsystems running.

Threats

  • Thaw -- The planet is thawing, changing terrain and routes
  • Fauna -- Hostile creatures that must be repelled
  • Biosphere exposure -- Some zones expose agents to alien biosphere effects
  • Disasters -- Environmental events that damage infrastructure

Commander Mode (2D)

In Commander Mode you control all four scientists from a top-down map view. Your objective is to keep the outpost alive by maintaining three subsystems: Thermal, Power, and Biofilter.

The Loop

Each subsystem drains over time. To keep them running, follow the gather-process-deposit cycle:

  1. Gather raw resources from zones on the map
  2. Process them at a station into refined goods
  3. Deposit the refined goods at the outpost

Supply Chains

  • Geothermal Ore -> Heat Cells -> Thermal
  • Cryo Crystals -> Fuel Rods -> Power
  • Xenoflora Samples -> Filter Compound -> Biofilter

Controls

  • Click a zone to move the selected scientist there
  • 1-4 -- Select a scientist (Fourier, Kepler, Margulis, Wegener)
  • Tab -- Cycle to the next scientist
  • G -- Gather resources
  • P -- Process raw materials
  • D -- Deposit refined goods
  • R -- Repair a structure
  • Q -- Repel fauna
